Job Summary

JOB OBJECTIVE(S) The Government Liaison Officer will act as the primary point of contact between the organization and governmental agencies, ensuring smooth and productive relationships. This role involves monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, managing regulatory affairs, facilitating communication between government agencies and the organization, and advocating for the organization's interests in policy discussions. The Government Liaison Officer will support the organization's compliance efforts and ensure alignment with laws, regulations and policies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and government agencies, fostering positive relationships and open communication. 

• Monitor and analyze government policies, regulations, and legislative activities that impact the organization. 

• Advocate for the organization’s interests by engaging with government officials, regulatory bodies, and policymakers. 

• Represent the organization in meetings, hearings, and discussions with government authorities on regulatory, compliance, and policy issues. 

• Prepare and submit government filings, applications, reports, and other required documentation in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. 

• Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to influence government policy in alignment with the organization's goals. 

• Coordinate and manage government-related events, meetings, and conferences, ensuring proper preparation and effective representation of the organization. 

• Identify and address potential risks and compliance issues related to government policies and regulations. • Advise internal departments on regulatory requirements and government procedures that must be followed. 

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key government officials, regulators, and industry associations. 

• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure the organization adheres to relevant regulations and government standards. 

• Assist in preparing responses to government inquiries or requests for information. 

• Keep abreast of emerging regulatory trends and government initiatives that may affect the organization. 

• Track and report on the progress of any government relations or advocacy initiatives.

 

Requirements

REQUIREMENT 

Education 

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Administration, Law, Business Administration, or a related field. 

• A Master’s degree in Public Policy, Government Relations, or a similar field is an advantage. 

General Experience 

• 2-6 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or regulatory affairs, with at least 2 years in a liaison or advocacy role. 

• Experience working directly with government agencies, policymakers, and regulatory bodies. 

Technical Skills 

• Strong understanding of governmental processes, public policy, and regulatory frameworks. 

• Knowledge of legislative tracking and reporting tools, and experience preparing official government communications and filings. 

• Ability to analyze and interpret government policies, regulations, and legislative documents. 

• Proficiency in building and maintaining professional relationships with government officials, stakeholders, and external partners. 

Certifications 

• Relevant certifications or training in government relations, public affairs, or regulatory compliance (e.g., Certified Government Relations Professional (CGRP), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)) are a plus.

Soft Skills 

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with government officials, stakeholders, and senior management. 

• Strong negotiation and advocacy skills to represent the organization’s interests effectively. 

• Ability to think strategically and identify opportunities for the organization within government policy and regulatory environments. 

• High attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. 

• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including legal, compliance, and corporate leadership. 

• Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to navigate complex government processes and regulations.
